How long will I stay at Cheshire House?

While each individual patient’s length of stay will be different, many short-term patients are discharged within 30 days.

What happens when it is time to leave Cheshire House?

When your care team determine that you have gained maximal mobility and the ability to return home, the social worker and discharge planner will facilitate discharge. A multi-disciplinary Care Conference is held with family members to ensure that everyone is in agreement with the course of action recommended. The discharge planner will schedule any needed services, such as home health care services and outpatient therapy, if necessary.

What is the admission process like?

Many patients are referred to Cheshire House prior to undergoing elective surgery. Cheshire House maintains close working relationships with many orthopedic, cardiac and neurosurgery practices. Prior to surgery, patients are welcome to visit Cheshire House to meet with an admissions representative for a tour and to reserve a room.

Other patients are referred to Cheshire House from the hospital when it becomes apparent that they are not yet well enough to successfully return home.

What types of patients go to Cheshire House?

A variety of conditions brings patients to Cheshire House. Many come for postsurgical rehab, to ensure that they get the physical therapy they need to return home physically able to resume normal activities to the highest level possible.

Other patients are admitted from local hospitals with a variety of medically complex issues. The skilled nursing staff at Cheshire House is well equipped to handle even the most seriously debilitated patients.

What types of services are provided at Cheshire House?

In addition to basic skilled nursing services, we offer physical therapy and occupational and speech therapy. Cheshire House offers aquatic therapy in our Swim-Ex Pool, which is especially useful after joint replacement surgery. We also provide IV therapy, wound care, and other skilled services to meet every patient’s needs.
